Wednesday is a lifelong resident of Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge. She is a 19-year-old Percheron Cross mare who was once used as a rodeo bronc. She has been hot iron branded and originated from a rodeo stock company in North Dakota. She will remain at Hooker Ranch for the rest of her life. Having experienced trauma from forced restraint and breeding, she distrusts most humans, which makes her unsuitable for re-adoption.
$1200 yearly/$100 monthly supports Wednesday's Sanctuary.
Seven is a retired AQHA Cutting horse who has suffered from severe laminitis. As a result, he requires continuous corrective shoeing and metabolic management with a specialized forage cube. Due to his condition, Seven is a permanent resident of Hooker Ranch. He currently receives one-on-one care in a foster home and serves as an ambassador for Hooker Ranch at parades and birthday parties.
$1200 yearly/$100 monthly supports Seven's Sanctuary.
"Hot" Honey arrived at Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge as a very untrusting and severely abused draft mule. She has endured significant abuse in her past, which required many months of trauma and behavioral therapy. Now around 20 years old, Honey has found her forever home where she can relax and decompress. Her body bears numerous scars and harness stains from a life of hard labor. In addition to her emotional and physical trauma, Honey suffers from severe arthritis in her rear left stifle. Here at Hooker Ranch, we ask nothing of Honey. She is free to come and go and live as naturally as possible.
Supporting Honey's sanctuary costs $1,200 per year, or $100 per month.
Like Honey, Shirley is a draft horse who has come from a severe trauma situation. Unfortunately, Shirley was born with genetic cataracts and has been blind in both eyes her entire life. Due to her blindness and past abuse, Shirley has developed severe trust issues, which make her unadoptable. However, she has formed a bond of trust with the staff at Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge. Over the last two years of therapeutic training and rehabilitation, Shirley has made significant progress from where she once was. We will continue to reevaluate her adoptability, but for now, she remains a permanent resident of Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge.
Supporting Shirley's sanctuary costs $1,200 per year, or $100 per month.
Valkyrie is an 18-year-old Clydesdale Cross mare who suffers from several health conditions, including Chronic Progressive Lymphedema, Equine Recurrent Uveitis, and right facial paralysis. She has a Cyclosporin implant in her remaining eye, and she requires daily monitoring of her weight and nutrition. Valkyrie has endured many health challenges throughout her life, including surviving multiple gunshot wounds, which were discovered during a radiograph of her head. Despite her ongoing health issues, Valkyrie remains kind and gentle. Due to her constant need for health and weight monitoring, she has been officially retired to the Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge sanctuary.
Supporting Valkyrie's sanctuary costs $1,200 per year, or $100 per month.
Katie Bug is a 27-year-old Pintaloosa mare who was surrendered to Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge because her veteran owner faced severe health issues and could no longer provide care for her. Katie has a severe metabolic condition that makes her highly sensitive to sugar and starch. This sensitivity leads to chronic laminitis flare-ups if she is allowed to graze without management. Additionally, Katie recently underwent the removal of her left eye due to chronic inflammation caused by Equine Recurrent Uveitis.
Furthermore, Katie is prone to severe sunburn during the summer months, which necessitates strict management of her sun exposure. Due to the specific care she requires, Katie resides permanently at Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge.
Supporting Katie Bug at the sanctuary costs $1,200 per year, or $100 per month.
Bunny is a 3-year-old Belgian mare with a chronic, neuromuscular disease called Shivers. It also causes rare bilateral Stringhalt in both of her rear legs. She also has an even rarer genetic Vitamin E deficiency which has to be managed with a low stress environment and Vitamin E supplementation. Bunny is living in a very low stress environment and due to her management needs will stay with Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge until her conditions can no longer be managed.
Supporting Bunny's sanctuary costs $1,200 per year, or $100 per month.
